Yesterday Dave was due home from work.  Sam was at home waiting but Dave didn't come home and after hours of worry she finally located him via the find my iPhone app and imagined the worst when the location came up as St Vincent's Hospital.  Leigh was amazing and selfless in helping Sam find Dave and has continued to be helpful in every way possible.

Dave had been hit by a 4WD while driving his Vespa, he was not at fault the driver did not see him.

Dave is lucky to be alive and has sustained multiple injuries including a broken jaw, broken teeth, dislocated hip and multiple breaks in his thigh and lower leg bones.  He has had one surgery and will be having more.  Currently he is sedated in ICU until he can be operated on again.  The initial CT scan did not indicate any head or neck trauma and he will be having another one to make sure that hasn't changed overnight.
Sam is so grateful that Dave has made it however the family have a long road ahead with more surgeries, time off work, hospital parking fees and rehabilitation.
Dave and Sam have both helped so many people in so many ways. If anyone can support them through this difficult time and ease the worry of ongoing financial burden I know Sam, Dave and Weston will be most grateful.  Lets help them out as they spend this Christmas in hospital.

Updates on Dave's progress will be posted on here, Sam is overwhelmed at the moment looking after Weston and being there for Dave.  If anyone would like further updates please contact Leigh Bolton.
All payments made will go to Sam's bank account via Gofundme.

Dave is doing good, he had surgery on his ankle last week and they removed the big frame that was holding his whole leg together and put on a smaller one that allows him to bend his ankle and knee, this frame will stay on for 6 months. All his skin grafts have taken well and he can shower them now. He also had a small surgery yesterday to take wires out of his right thumb so that he can get his right hand moving again. Today He’s getting transferred to a physio ward where they’ll start helping him to strength up so he can go home, probably another 2-3 weeks though. We’re hoping he can be home for Weston’s birthday on the 26th of February

Quick update......Dave’s hip surgery went well last week and the surgeons were able to insert a metal plate to repair the broken bone in his pelvis, he’s been resting since then giving his hip and skin grafts on his leg time to heal. He’s been able to sit in a chair for a couple of hours at a time, take a shower and shave and even hop around a little on a walking frame. He will potentially have another surgery late next week to repair his lower ankle pending the condition of his skin grafts. Still looking like he will be in hospital for another month but his recovery is tracking well and he’s in good spirits. Thanks for all your positive comments and donations the family are very appreciative. xx

Dave was in a 9 hour surgery on Boxing Day. The Orthopedic surgeons have put in 2 plates, on either side of fracture underneath his knee.
Then the Plastic surgeons took muscle from inside of his calf & made a rotational flap around to cover deep exposed cavity underneath his knee. They also took skin and grafted it over the other parts of his lower leg where there was no skin.
They are concerned and are watching the rotational flap over the next 5 days to make sure it take to its new position before they operate further. Everything right now is dependent on his skin accepting the multiple grafts and not getting infected.

The other breaks in his leg are stabilized and they will fix them in another surgery next week. His hip fracture will also be addressed in the next week.

Good news is that he was moved from ICU into the orthopedic ward as his leg is the only thing they need to monitor, everything else is stable.
No visitors just yet, the family are still processing the accident together and need time and space to heal.

Below are some before and after photos
