Rally and Rebuild for the Benoits

$5,105 of $5,000 goal

Today, March 3, life-long residents of Cavendish, Martha and Mitchell Benoit lost their garage and most of their home to a fire.  What started in the garage, quickly swept in to their home. They have lost everything.  Martha and Mitchell have been huge supporters of Cavendish Elementary School and of the town for many years.   They finally recovered from the damages of Tropical Storm Irene, and are now strapped with this.

While Mitchell and Martha do have homeowner's insurance, we all know that this rarely covers what the family will need and takes a really long time to receive any sort of financial support.

One of the reasons people live in a small community are in times like this community members can rally together and support each other in their darkest of hours.

Donations from this fund will go directly to the family, and be accessible to them for things they need in the immediate future.

Thank you for your generosity and for making a difference in our community.

I chatted with Rhonda today. Martha and Mitchell are moving in to their rental unit today. The next step will be to begin doing some clean up. When they get to that point, we will put a call out to everyone to get them some help.

I talked with Martha today. She and Mitchell are doing well, and are starting the healing process.

Martha shared that both she and Mitchell are so very grateful for the outpouring of the community to support them. They are especially grateful for the person who saw the fire, and stopped to alert them to get out. "Our house is pretty sound proof. So we didn't even hear it."

They have met with the insurance adjusters and that process is moving forward. Martha and Mitchell will be moving in with Rhonda tomorrow until they are able to secure a rental. They have a possible rental that they are following up with today to make sure that the rental accepts their dog.

While with the insurance adjusters yesterday, they were able to recover some personal belongings, and some precious memory items that survived the fire. Some of their clothing was salvageable and is being sent to the dry cleaners to see if they can get the smoke out of it. ServicePro is also working with them to help wiht recovery efforts.

The insurance company said that it will probably be 6 months before they are able to complete the whole process.
