The Hobart Birth House-Conception to Reality

Hobart needs another maternity care option for women to be able to access the gold standard of care, which is defined by the World Health Organisation as continuity of care - otherwise known as One Woman - One Midwife.

This option is currently only available to 8% of Australian women.

Sadly, 1 in 3 women experience trauma during their birth.  But it does not have to be this way.

Evidence shows that these numbers can be significantly reduced by providing continuity of care and an environment that feels safe and private for the woman and her birth supporters.

The One Woman - One Midwife model allows a trusting relationship to develop that increases confidence and is demonstrated repeatedly to lead to improved outcomes for maternal and infant health.

The Hobart Birth House  (HBH) will be a central hub for wholistic pregnancy care in Hobart. It will provide women and families in Southern Tasmania with the option to give birth at the HBH in a home-like environment with the support of endorsed midwives.

The HBH will be a place where women experience 'wrap around' care during their pregnancy, birth and post-partum period, so they can emerge from this life phase emotionally safe and physically well.

Women will receive individualised care where they are central in decision making.

The midwives will have strong collaborative relationships with various care providers, including obstetricians so that our clients can easily access other levels of care when required.

The Hobart Birth House Project Team is aiming to open the doors of our much needed service in early 2022.

In order to do this, we need to raise $100,000 to help cover the costs of setting up, including legal fees, building refurbishment to suit purpose, website design, administrative costs in gaining a premises and so on.

We need these funds before the end of June this year to help pay start-up costs to get the Hobart Birth House off the ground.

We are searching for 100 passionate people who want to leave a legacy for the future by becoming the Hobart Birth House Founding Mothers.  To become a founding mother, we are asking for a significant donation of $500 minimum. Founding mothers will be acknowledged in an art work to be hung at the Birth House.

Please email [email redacted] if you are interested in supporting the Hobart Birth House as a Founding Mother and want more information about the Hobart Birth House.

Of course, if being a founding mother is not possible, we invite you to be a Birth House Angel, by donating any amount to the Birth House. We need our Mothers and our Angels to make this dream a reality!

Thank you!
