السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
إِنَّا لِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ
“Surely to Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return” (Quran 2:156)
Our dear 31 year old brother, Maher Mohamed Hussein, has passed after a long struggle with heart issues. He struggled with life-threatening severe aortic valve stenosis and was being treated in the American hospital in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He needed 2 of his aortic valves replaced as they had become diseased with an infection (endocarditis). He had inflammations in his heart and had suffered from a failing kidney and liver.
He was a Somali Australian who had traveled to Somalia to be with his wife and 2 children (Mohammed, 5 and Marwa, 3) when his health began to rapidly deteriorate after contracting a respiratory infection that kicked off his health issues. We had tried to get him to Australia for treatment but were unable to get him on a flight as a result of the government’s response to COVID-19 which saw the borders restricted to a very low amount of people being allowed in each week.
Then our family chose to bring him to the UAE in an attempt to stabilise his condition until he could fly to Australia. The doctors deemed him unfit to fly and his medical situation critical, so he needed emergency treatment. After 11 days in the ICU, he passed away just after 12am on Friday, the 19th of February.
Our brother was a kind man beloved by many. He spent his life living across the United Arab Emirates, Somalia, and Australia and made lasting impressions in each of those countries. Anyone who knows him will tell you he was kind, funny and a humble man. He was a good friend, a good father, a good husband and loved by his family more than anything in this world. His passing will leave a hole in all the hearts of our family, and all those who knew him, so we ask that you please keep him in your prayers.
Abu Huraira (RA) reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “When the human being dies, his deeds end except for three: ongoing charity (sadaqah jariyah), beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him.”
We are hoping to raise money to build water wells in my brother’s name in Somalia so that the poor may be able to drink from these wells and allow for his good deeds to be continuous. Any extra money raised from this will go directly towards feeding the poor, and supporting his wife and 2 young children in Somalia.
If you are in a position to donate any amount, no matter how small, my family would be eternally grateful. If you are unable to, then please keep us in your prayers for this tough time ahead of us. May God Bless you for your donations and prayers, and may God keep you and your family in good health and happiness.
