The yurt is on a 500 acre property and is towards the top of a sacred mountain. There is no road to it and it is in a beautiful natural clearing far from any other dwelling. This makes for a perfect retreat location, but a difficult one for building, as all building materials need to be carried up the mountain... it has been a real labor of love and devotion to build this retreat cabin.
The yurt is one of two long term retreat cabins at my retreat centre near Uralla in Australia. It is my long term goal to do my own 3 year retreat in the yurt as well as offer it to the larger Dharma community for their own retreat on an ongoing basis. The current state of disrepair means that it is quite difficult to actually do a retreat in the cabin without ongoing maintenance efforts before and during the retreat. My hope is to make it possible to walk up to the cabin and begin a retreat without having to worry about the solar electricity, heating, leaking roofs or the incursion of snakes or other Australian bighties in your bed. I also hope to extend the usable season of the yurt into the summer months and make it warm enough for our harsh winter.
Please don't feel any pressure to donate, just if you feel it is right for you. I cant offer much in return, but I can offer you the cabin as a place for your own long term retreat if that interests you.
Lots of love,
Ben (Jampay Dorje)
