We are raising funds for equipment for the newly-formed Red Cross in Muntok, Bangka Island, Indonesia. The Red Cross will operate the blood transfusion service, assist in diagnosis and treatment of Coronavirus, give essential help in relief work for annual flooding in the town, as well as assisting community health projects.
In 1942, 21 Australian Army Nurses, civilians and around 60 British servicemen were killed by Japanese soldiers on Radji Beach, Muntok. Many people drowned in the bombing of over 40 boats off Muntok and survivors were placed into harsh prison camps.
We are aiming to assist the Red Cross in Muntok both to help with their valuable work and in memory of all who suffered in the area during World War 2.
