Help us bring our dog Cooper home

On the 23rd of May we took my sister Ashley’s very much loved 6-year old fur baby Cooper to a specialist vet due to slight difficulties with his walking. What followed has been the worst 3 weeks of our family’s lives. Cooper was kept at the vet for 2 days until the vets finally decided to do an MRI to see what the issue was. Upon finding a bulging disc, which was identified to be the cause of his pain, the vets decided to go ahead with a ‘spinal tap’ procedure. The anesthetist who conducted this procedure punctured a blood vessel which caused a bleed to Cooper’s brain. This resulted in Cooper being in a coma/stroke like state. We were told Cooper had a 20% chance of surviving the incident, however we wanted to take that chance for our boy. Cooper has been in the Intensive Care Unit at the veterinary hospital since his admission, due to him being still acutely unwell and not able to maintain his breathing without supportive oxygen.
In the past few days, Cooper has started to show us some signs of improvement. He is now out of the coma and is responding to our daily visits, learning to breathe on his own again and making only small movements with his back legs and tail.

Ashley is on maternity leave with her 3 month old baby boy Nate, driving over 2 hours a day to visit Cooper, some days even twice a day to ensure Cooper knows we are right by his side.

She desperately wants Cooper home and for her boys to grow up together. It’s what we all so desperately hope for. Recovery from this brain injury is slow but not impossible and Cooper has been fighting every single day and showing great signs of improvement. Ashley (along with our family) are not prepared to give up on our beautiful boy, however the recovery and rehabilitation is a slow and costly process and can take several months. We ask you to help us, with whatever donation you can so we can continue our baby’s journey. These funds will contribute to his medical support once he makes it home and eventually his rehabilitation to learn to walk again. This is for you Cooper. We will not give up on you, our boy.
