Help Peta save her dream horse Lurch

My beautiful friend Peta decided after many years of saving horses from the sales, and purchasing broken racehorses, that she would finally save up and buy her dream school master (purchase price of $6,000.00) that she could go out and compete and enjoy and love for many years to come.

In true Peta style, she did her research and found a wonderful trainer & organisation named SECOND CHANCE HORSES in Victoria, who had the perfect horse available.

SECOND CHANCE HORSES had already saved this special gentle giant, lovingly known as Lurch, form an agistment property where he had sadly been abandoned due to financial hardship.

Through the skin and bones & lice infested coat Second Chance Horses could see this boy had something special, and with that he was loaded on the float & taken home to be rehabilitated over the next 12 months. Plenty of feed, and a caring environment Lurch quickly flourished in his new home, lots of calls were made and it turns out this special boy was a successful performance horse in his day, purpose bred for his lovely temperament and had many glowing references from previous owners. Second Chance Horses had fallen completely in love with this gorgeous softy, and made a promise to find him the best home so he could live the life he truly deserves and never be forgotten about again. He was generously advertised for a sale price only reflecting the recovery of his costs from his previous agistment bill and rehabilitation costs, and a good home being the only importance.

It was a perfect match, Peta has saved MANY horses in her past and provides the best love and care to any animal that comes her way, so Lurch had found his perfect forever home.

Fast forward to today -

Lurch was in perfect condition, passing his vet check and pre rides with flying colours 3 days prior to his departure from Victoria to NSW. (No previous Heath issues)

A very well known Horse transportation company was hired to collect Lurch on the Tuesday and deliver him on the Wednesday. From one stuff around to another and little to no reply to correspondence, Lurch spent 4 days in transport and was delivered to Peta in NSW, severely dehydrated, dull and with raw scouring marks on his rump (his tail had been washed, definitely an indication that someone from the transportation company was aware he was unwell and had tried to tidy him up) Thankfully Peta acted quickly and rung her vet immediately, poor Lurch had developed colitis during his travels and is in the equine hospital on medication where his vet bills are likely to reach $10,000.00 or more. (Currently at $5600 and he requires at least another 10 days in hospital with medical treatment)

The vets commended Peta on her fast acting approach and said with an incubation period of 24 hours, he surly would have not survived without immediate treatment.

Once again Lurch had been given a second chance at life.

The vets are optimistic  that Lurch will make a full recovery eventually, but will need to continue IV fluids, antibiotics and as we all know weeks at an equine hospital is not cheap!

Putting it simply Peta and her family are GOOD PEOPLE serving the community for many years in their careers, and volunteers outside of work for anyone or any organisation that requires help, you name it, they support it! And will always help others before themselves.

It’s about time they received some love and support in return and that is why this

Go Fund Me account has been set up.

No one likes asking for money, especially from strangers. Peta and her family would NEVER expect, or ask for financial help, and would quietly try to fix this horrible situation anyway they could without letting on they were struggling.

Please know, if you do kindly support this cause, I know for a fact that the good will, will be passed on for eternity from this loving family.

This is just a bad luck situation for a beautiful kind horse and his loving human, let’s hope his life isn’t wasted and Peta’s heart broken all because of someone else’s negligence and a large vet bill.

SECOND CHANCE HORSES has already kindly donated a substantial amount to Lurches vet bill to try and help support this horrible situation, and we are so thankful for this beautiful gesture, I hope we can raise the balance to fix this situation ❤️

every dollar is much appreciated.
