Help Jordan beat Brain Cancer

When the unimaginable happens to your child and the world turns dark, the support of those that rally around us is what reminds us that there is still light, even if it’s not shining where you wanted it to. There is always light, even if it only shines long enough to get you through the day.

Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) is the most aggressive of all childhood cancers. Each year in Australia, on average, 20 children are diagnosed with DIPG, a brain cancer that usually occurs between the ages of 4-11 years. It is an incurable form of brain cancer. There are no effective treatments for DIPG and current therapeutic strategies are essentially palliative. The average survival rate from diagnosis is around nine to 12 months.

In January 2021, Jordan Deir’s parents received the devastating news that, at only 8 years old, their little boy had became one of these 20 children.

Although treatment here is limited the family have been exploring options overseas and were made aware of a possibility in Houston, Texas. Unfortunately, at $500,000, this treatment isn’t cheap, but how can a parent put a dollar figure on their child’s life?

There is hope that this could give Jordan more time on this Earth. If given the okay to make the 25 hour flight by his current treating doctors/physicians, Jordan and his family will travel to the USA in a bid to save/prolong their little boy's life.

If Jordan is approved by his medical team to travel, funds raised will go towards flights, treatments, and supporting the family.

In the event that Jordan becomes too unwell to fly to America, the funds will go towards covering his parents' mortgage repayments and other financial needs to give them more space and time to come to terms with the situation. Both of Jordan’s parents have both stayed at home since the diagnosis in order to spend as much time with Jordan and his little brother Jack, adding financial difficulties to an already incredibly stressful time.

If you have some light to spare, even just a little, Jordan’s family will be forever grateful if you shine some their way and give them more time with their precious boy.
