Anya’s English National Ballet School Dream

Hi everyone! My name is Anya, I’m 16 years old and an aspiring ballerina. I started dancing at the age of 7 and knew that I wanted to make it my career by 12. I grew up watching ballets, musicals, plays, and for as long as I can remember, it has been my dream and passion to dance.

I want to tell you about the journey to my dream. It started in August 2019 at the age of 14 when I attended the Japan Grand Prix, which was my first competition. When I saw the others dance I realized how far I was from the Japanese standard (which explains why they are some of the best in the world). Returning home I was unsure of how to move forward because I couldn’t get the level of training I needed in the Philippines.

My mom discovered the European Masters 3-day Intensive which was being held in Melbourne, Australia at Melbourne Academy of the Arts (MAARTS) in October of that year. It was my second exposure to international teachers. After attending the intensive, I was fortunate enough to get accepted into MAARTS and began training in February of 2020. It was an answered prayer!

I’m so grateful my parents allowed me to move to Melbourne on my own even though I was only 15.

MAARTS has been training me for over 1 1/2 years for international online competitions (due to COVID) and audition for many top schools around the world. I’ve had acceptances into summer schools around the world like Paris Opera, Houston Ballet, and American Ballet Theater.

I’ve also won awards at select competitions which led up to the Italian competition, Salieri Danza, where I was awarded the opportunity to skip the first round of auditions and go straight to the final round for the English National Ballet School’s (ENBS) 3 year full-time course. This opportunity had been given to me by the Directress of the school, Viviana Durante. I was shocked because a few months prior I had auditioned for the same school but was rejected.

I submitted my final audition and was so surprised and elated to get accepted! I felt and still feel so honored because they receive hundreds of applications a year and only select 30. ENBS was always one of my dream schools and even up to now, I still can’t believe my dream came true.

I am in the stage of planning my move to London in August, which unfortunately, I have to do on my own because of COVID. Since ENBS is among the top schools, the tuition alone is $36,000 AUD/PHP 1,330,000. I also have to pay for housing since the school doesn’t offer it. The amount I am trying to raise is $50,000 AUD to help cover my other expenses as well. I have applied for financial aid but nothing is certain. I am so thankful that my parents are able to get me started on my way to ENBS, but I know it is a lot of money and am seeking your help to fund my dream. I am not worried too much about the funds because I know that if it’s what God wants for me, He will provide the way. As far as I know, I will be the first ballerina from the Philippines to qualify for this rare opportunity. It will be my privilege to bring honor to my country and to my family. Please support my journey. No matter how much or little you give, I will be forever grateful and hopefully, one day I can perform before you with the amazing training I will receive from ENBS on full display.
