As most of you know my sister has a severe disability by the name of Cohen Syndrome, in recent years we have found other families throughout Australia who have children who have Cohen Syndrome, I believe we are up to 12 families now.
My mother and another women from the Newcastle area have started an Australian Cohen Syndrome Conference that allows the families to come together with other specialist and facilities that work with the families to enhance their lives.
The Conference was held for the first time in 2019 with success, allowing other families to meet for the first time and meet other children with the same syndrome as it is extremely rare. In 2020 the conference was cancelled due to covid 19 but they are able to hold it this year.
Due to Covid they have lost their sponsors and a lot of families have struggled due to Covid so they are asking for sponsors or donations to help with accommodation, activities and any other requirements they may need as many families travel from out of state to Newcastle.
This Conference is a great opportunity for families to meet in person and speak about the Syndrome as due to the rarity there is not a great deal of information available to families, also it allows them to support each other through the tough times as the children range from 40’s to 2 years old.
I am writing this to ask for possible donations from anyone interested to help fund this event. Anything you can spare would be greatly appreciated. From personal experience this conference is great for the children’s and families wellbeing, for them to know they are not alone in a lifelong battle.
I have attached a link from an article written about the first Conference in 2019. If anyone would like any more information, don’t hesitate to ask
The conference is held in September this year. If donating, please do so before mid August.
