This fundraiser is to offer assistance to Ali and her husband Dave as they navigate the medical minefield of costs that lay before them.
As anyone would know, Ali has an infectious and loving nature and has ALWAYS put other people's comforts before her own. Now it is time for her to receive the love and support that she has given to so many over the years in light of this upsetting news. Ali has always been a beacon of light for those suffering around her and we want to show her that we are all grateful for that support.
Receiving a Cancer diagnosis is not easy and with it comes cost despite Australia having a well funded medical system.
Unfortunately Ali's cancer has progressed outside of her lung and in to her chest wall and several lymph nodes.
Ali's officially subtype of lung cancer is Stage 4 non-small cell lung adenocarcinoma. Ali is not undergoing chemotherapy or radiation as originally planned and instead is going to be participating in a targeted therapy trial drug called Tagrisso. Fortunately this drug goes on the PBS from January 1, however the experts are informing us of many other expenses that go along with participating in this trial. Ali has already has spent around $2500 on MRIs and PET scans that are not covered under the PBS so she really needs help. This treatment if it works, will give Ali a better quality of life over chemo and radiation, however if this treatment fails she will need to then go on chemotherapy. The side effects of Tagrisso will mean Ali will no longer be able to work full time in her job as a primary school teacher which will adversely affect her and Dave financially. Ali needs to rest and be cared for to ensure she has a chance at survival of this brutal disease.
We are reaching out to all of Ali's friends and in particular the Australian Blues Music community, as she has contributed so much to it over the last 35 years.
We hope that this fundraiser can ease the financial burden that both Ali and Dave are about to face and give them some breathing space to not worry about anything that that they may need over the next 6-12 months.
We understand that 2020 has been a difficult year for many of us so we thank you for considering any donation to this cause for our beautiful and loving friend.
Ali starts her official treatment on the 4th January, 2021.
