She has the opportunity to buy the house where she has been renting (and loves) these last few years.
Like many First Nations people she has no access to inherited wealth or assets to draw upon. As a single (widowed) mum with 3 jarjums (children) under 10 she doesn't have a lot of time on her hands, and while studying part-time, she doesn't have a full-time job.
What she does have though is the love and respect of those who know her. We can do more than 'pay the rent', we can buy the home!
For those of us who benefit directly from living on Biripi land, here is a chance to help secure a home for this young Biripi family.
We need to raise $42,000 by the end of June!
Will you help? Please consider what you can really afford to help make this happen. If you can't commit to a lump sum but could make a monthly payment for a year, we can make that work. Please contact us directly if you want to do that.
All money raised will go directly towards paying off the property.
Every donation counts, but please think about giving to your upper limit, rather than your lower one. It's a fine opportunity to put into practice solidarity and take a small but significant step towards making amends for generations of dispossession.
We know we probably won't have it all by the end of June, but hopefully we'll have some lenders by then too. Money that comes in after June will go towards paying off those loans. Fundraising ideas are also welcome. Together we can make this happen.
Thank you for helping Nicole and her little family secure a safe place to call home.
