Imagine providing a nutritious meal to over 250,000 hungry people for less than $0.10 per meal. It's remarkable what we can do when we try. And we're succeeding thanks to your help.
It still astonishes me every day when I arrive at the office to find a long line of men, women and children forming hours before we open the Food Bank just so they don't miss out. The community grape vine surely rumbles about our limited food supplies each day, so the line starts earlier and earlier and gets longer and longer.
Today I walked down the line to say hello. On the surface there's smiles and good spirits, but it's obvious they're hungry, frightened, and their dignity has taken a major blow. How long must they go through this indignity? I have never gone a day of real hunger. I have no children, yet I could sense the anxiety in everyone for themselves, their children and future. It's written all over their faces. All of them. It is impossible not to feel it to your bones.
Providing food to those in need is of course important, but of all the things AidHub will achieve, the one thing I hope we will excel at is helping people regain their dignity.
Anyway, for now we press on. As at today we have provided over 248,300 meals. By tomorrow it will be over 250,000. Thanks to all for your kind support in keeping this program going/growing.
