Hello - an update on Dewey but first, as per GoFundMe rules, I want to say that Dewey is my husband, I am withdrawing the funds donated in my name, and I am using those funds to pay his medical costs. This is including hospital bills, purchasing his medications, and paying for any additional therapies he is prescribed that aren't included in his hospital bills (like deep muscle massages).
Dewey has very steadily improved. He is now able to stand on his own from his bed with just a walker. He still isn't walking but his therapists believe that will happen any day now since he is able to stand. He has regained almost all of his upper body strength and mobility and can sit up on his own and get back into bed on his own.
The estimate is that it will be one more week after this week and he should at that point be ready to come home - however this is tentative since it all depends on how soon he will be able to walk alone. All of the therapists working with him are amazed at how quickly he is progressing - and his doctor told him that she has never seen anyone progress as fast as he has. She assumed when she met him for the first time that it would be many months before he might be able to walk - and now she is convinced that it will be any day now.
Considering that right before Christmas, Dewey was in a life-threatening coma, it is amazing and miraculous that he is in the position he is in. And though this process sometimes seems to be taking forever, every single day he does something more, something better than the day before. He is so determined and truly works so hard - and anyone who knows him knows that this is very unlike anything he was ever like before.
I want to truly thank everyone who has helped from the bottom of my heart - I wouldn't have known what to do without all of the assistance. I also would like to ask that if anyone has the ability to help please do so - we have about $5,000 in hospital bills that still need paid and could really use any help at all to pay for it. I appreciate any help at all - and again I thank everyone who has already helped! You have all been angels!
