Yipirinya to Bronte

$23,510 of $25,000 goal

Raised by 88 people in 8 months
Bronte Public School  is seeking to raise $25000 to fund 12 students & 2 teachers from Yipirinya School in Alice Springs to visit Bronte Public School to participate in a cultural exchange in 2018.

In 2018 Bronte Public School developed a mutual exchange excursion with Yipirinya School in Alice Springs, whereby 10 -16 students from each school will travel to each other’s home city during the year to learn about the school, educational methods and way of life.

The Yipirinya School is an Aboriginal school in Alice Springs with approximately 150 students from pre-school to Year 10. The aim of the school is to keep Indigenous culture alive through bilingual and bicultural education, combining teaching of literacy, numeracy and western skills with traditional education of Indigenous culture and languages. More information on the school can be found at ( http://www.yipirinya.com.au/).

The students from Bronte Public School visited Yipirinya School in June 2018, and the return visit from Yipirinya School is planned for later in the year (November).

The objectives of the exchange are to learn from each other about cultures, education and way of life, and for the students to see and learn about a different part of Australia that they may never otherwise have the opportunity to see.

The initial Bronte Public School trip there and back was fully funded by our students themselves, and we are raising money only for the Yipirinya School students to come to Sydney for 5 days with their teachers. The students will be flown to Sydney and will spend their time at Bronte Public School in classrooms and around the local area. Our fundraising goal is $25,000 which will cover flights, accommodation and activities for the students during their visit.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

The Bronte PS group has just returned from their visit to Yipirinya School in Alice Springs. As we reflect on the trip, we are filled with contrasting emotions. From the joy of meeting the wonderful children and staff, to the sadness of the poverty stricken communities from which some of the children live. From the joy of watching the children from both schools play happily together, to the sadness of seeing some of the Yipirinya children arrive at school cold and hungry. I think our visit boosted the spirits and enthusiasm of the amazing staff, and brought some extra smiles to the children’s faces. It was a great success, and we hope we can visit again in the coming years.
Now we look forward to the Yipirinya children visiting Bronte PS in November. This is all thanks to the GoFundMe page and its generous donors. The children are very excited, and can’t wait to see the ocean and the harbour. During their trip they will be going surfing, and visiting Taronga Zoo and Luna Park, not to mention coming to school at Bronte PS.
Thank you!
